Following are some of APs favourite signature licks, along with a description and example clip.

Mixolydian Lick

This mixolydian lick repeats at three different octaves down the neck. It uses some chromatic passing notes and plays on the idea of running chromatically down towards the major 3rd note (G#) but then skipping it and then jumping back to it after playing the minor 3rd note (G).

Diminished Lick

This lick uses the symmetry (as mentioned earlier) of the diminished scale to its advantage to repeat all the way up the neck.

Pentatonic Lick

This lick utilises the pentatonic scale at the 12th fret. The lick sounds best played with the fingers as opposed to using a pick, as there is a lot of jumping of notes between strings. This lick sounds nice played over a CMaj7 chord as the lick contains the M3rd, 5th, 6th, M7th and 9th notes of the C chord.

Major7 Arpeggio Lick

This lick features the Major 7 arpeggio with chromatic passing notes. Once again the pattern is repeated at 3 different octaves to enable movement up the neck.
